1st Vegas Blog May 2012 Part 3 - Mandalay Bay Hotel

Vegas Day 9 - Monday 14th May 2012

I woke Lesley up, after being in bed for 15 hours. Checking out of the Aria to day, it took 35 minutes for us to get checked out, what a pain, I got comped, $70 , $50 Simon $11 Lesley not bad off the bill.

Took a cab to the Mandalay Bay, chap drove like a nut through 3 red lights. Checked in at Mandalay Bay, $20 dollar trick did not work, she gave our money back to us, she did not have the rooms together but were on the same floor a few doors apart. However, the boys had their own seperate Queen size beds each and we had a fantastic strip view from both rooms and reasonably high up as a result and complimentary late check out. We duly unpacked, whilst checking out the fantastic view, then headed on down to the casino for some hotly anticipated action!

Golden Apple Power Spins slot machine
So, day one at the final stop off (Hotel number 3 in our 15 night tour) and probably our favourite Casino / Hotel in Vegas the Illustrious Mandalay Bay.  Just easing ourselves in gently with some low denomination play through (big mistake, as I felt our luck should not continue and determined to keep well up on our bank roll for the tour) this is the (new to me) Golden Apple Power Spins slot machine. This win, using 1 bonus spin, gave a really nice pay off for just a 40cent bet.

Played a little bit more in the Mandalay, went down a little but nothing much. Food was starting to beckon, so we walked through the Mandalay Place to the Luxor, we do like this casino, even if only for the Grand Pyramid and the Pyramid Café, for which we are headed for our daily feast. We only seem able to eat once a day in Vegas, hmm I wonder why?
Got our usual booth seating. Lesley and I had a Burgundy burger and Simon had a BBQ burger, Ollie had a meat feast pizza. Played the Casino for a little while after in the Luxor, didn’t really do much, so headed off to the ABC store to stock up on water, beer and a bottle of Rose Champagne to help drink in the wonderful Las Vegas Strip view from the room. The tinted glass on the windows makes the photos appear a bit darker.

FireBall Frenzy Bonus - Progressive Win

On the return back to our rooms we had a nice FireBall Frenzy hit for a 160c bet, 2 spins in. Mandalay Bay stay day1 is starting very well, continuing the luck we have had from the other hotels we have stayed at, on this 15 day tour.

Back in the room, opened a beer and sat on the bed, looking at the great strip view we had from our rooms.
We are already starting to plan a mini return trip later this year, if this streak continues.

Vegas Day 10 - Tuesday 15th May 2012

Today we took the express bus down to Flamingo. We were planning to buy some tickets to the Penn and Teller show at the Rio. We thought that as the Flamingo was in the same (Harrah's Group) Casino group this might work, but the concierge at the Flamingo said to get any promo, we would need to visit the Rio in person. Unphased by this (as Ollie is a big fan of them) we walked next door to Harrahs, to get the free shuttle out to the Rio. Good job too as Penn and Teller were only doing 2 more shows before they went off for two weeks holiday. We really got an excellent price saving over $120, so well worth the trip. The tickets were for the following evening.

Rio - Bombs Away slot win

This was a healthy win for a straight in 50c spin, the beat goes on.

Since we like the Rio so much, we stayed (as you do) for a few spins. Simon won $375 on the Quick Hits, Lesley and I put in $5 each and left with $20 each, after many many drinks, (Ollie drinking more than the rest of us as usual), so a result as it is very entertaining (I plan to do a retrospective blog for last years action scenes including the Bar Flaring which is a must see as well as a open singing and dance routines around the Casino while you play).
Shuttled it back to Harrahs, with the view to eating next door at Imperial Palace' Hash House a GoGo. This place is featured on man verses food, as the portions are huge and the theme is twisted farm food, so they put together ingredients that most probably would not seem the norm, but the results were very nice.

Hash House a GoGo - Ollie with his "Salmon Hash Special"

Lesley, Simon and I had the famed "Andy’s Sage Chicken Dinner". It had everything in it, sage chicken, bacon, hash browns, toms, lettuce, cheese sauce, eggs, scone etc. Lesley only managed half of hers, I had to finish it - man versus food and all that; Simon nearly made it. Ollie had the "Salmon Hash Special". It looked really good -  Salmon, Hash browns, scrambled eggs etc.. Huge portion again.  We needed to head back to the Mandalay Bay Hotel to recover.

Vegas Day 11 - Wednesday 16th May 2012

Took the Express Bus out to the Las Vegas Premium Outlet shopping mall. It was very hot, around the 100F mark. Lesley bought flip flops and a belt, I bought underwear and a belt, Ollie jeans, leather jacket  and t-shirts and Simon numerous t-shirts and a leather jacket. This all took 6 hours, so back on the strip we popped into the pyramid café for some nachos two seperate mountains one of chicken and the other beef. They tasted good, but could have been hotter, the cheese was not as melted as usual - but hey, once in a while we all have an off day - it is still one of our staple watering holes at that end of the strip.

Back to the room for a shower and get ready for the show, Penn and Teller out at the Rio. Excellent show, better than I expected.  There was a long wait for the shuttle back to the strip, but we made it. Back at the Mandalay bay, had a few spins and a few more cocktails. No losses (swings and roundabouts) so all good as the points are all racking up nicely - heading for Gold on the MLife (loyalty scheme) Card.
Off to bed at 3am.

Vegas Day 12 - Thursday 17th May 2012

Up late, I wonder why. We strolled over to have a play at Excalibur for bit.  Simon and Lesley no losses and a few drinks, myself and Ollie not so good, but did get a good drinks service. Headed across to the Luxor to the Pyramid café,  quite hungry by now, so ordered some cheesy chips to start (not on the menu but they were happy to accommodate us), followed by 3 steak and eggs and Ollie had Eggs Benedict it was back to their normal high standard, very nice breakfast!

After our late breakfast we went to the "New York New York". Not a great session, but Simon won $60 on the wolf run, so off to ABC to stock up again (beer and earings). Then headed back to the Mandy'.

Boingy Beans Bonus slot win

Back at the Mandy - Ok I have seen many entertaining fun video slot machines over some time now but I think this one takes the prize for this year in terms of new games. Getting now towards the end of our 15 night vegas tour this was at our last Hotel The Mandalay Bay. For an 80c bet this was a very reasonable Jackpot bonus win. The machine was "warm" so although it took a few more spins to reach the bonus than my normal 2 or 3, it was with balancing payoffs along the way - so still topped out as a decent win and back up on the day after going down a bit at Excalibur earlier.

We all went back to the room for a chill, opened a bottle of pink fizzy Champagne to drink in the excellent strip view. The boys joined us, took in the view whilst sipping the fizz. The boys went back to shower, Lesley and I were already showered, so we went down to the casino for a few spins, whilst waiting for the boys.

We were now headed for the Tropicana. We didn’t do too bad in the Tropicana, it has recently been refurbished and looks nice.

Platinum Power Progressives - Power Up Bonus Slot Machine Jackpot Win

Tropicana Casino - this win was on the free play chunk of money i.e. the other half from my sign up last year under the new match what you lose bonus for a new sign-up.  i.e. I played through $100 so they gave me $50 free play the same day and was able to pick up the remaining $50 on this day nearly a year later.

Needless to say I cashed out chunks of play like this as the freeplay money was played through.
It was a fun evening we had before venturing back to the Mandalay Bay where we were staying.

On the way back stopped off at the Krispy Kreme donuts shop in Excalibur, brought 12, 3 each. Very nice, this is around 2 a.m.

Vegas Day 13 - Friday 18th May 2012

Met the boys down in the Mandalay bay casino, then headed off to the Express bus stop to catch the bus down to Fremont Street (old / original Vegas). On arrival we started play in the Plaza. This Casino has been refurbished, very nice too.

Plaza Downtown - Black & White 7's Jackpot Win

Couple of spins in and hit a nice win on the Black & White Sevens for 75c. Good start to our foray downtown to see the Freemont Experience.

More importantly, on our way to our pilgrimage to the unmissable Main Street Station Casino for the best value T-Bone in Vegas, at the triple 7 Pub there - not to mention the fact they have their own microbrewery! so some serious high quality real ale tasting session is in the offing too.

Cashman Bonus slot win - Plaza Downtown

I am sure some folk will have had much better wins than this on this machine, but I thought I would show you anyway so that those who dont know how the bonus plays may learn how to make a better choice than i just did...or just know what is coming once your selection is made.

Megabucks Slot Jackpot Freespin Bonus - Plaza Downtown

We did well in here overall. Simon, Lesley and I, clubbed in for the Megabucks and got the free spins which amazingly retriggered twice, which gave us around $80 so not bad. The Plaza Downtown was a really good bit of fun.

We were all getting hungry by now, so we cashed out and went over to the Main Street Station to the 777 brewery.  Had 3 T-bone steaks, absolutely delicious, Ollie tucked into a pizza. We actually shared 2 desserts -  hot fudge sundae and a deep fried cheese cake, very nice. Us boys are getting well oiled, did I mention it was a brewery, mind you Ollie was already worse the wear after the Plaza, so he was on water to sober up. The rest of us had a few more beers and spins after food.

Triple 7 Pub & Microbrewery

We arranged to met the boys in Binion's as they were enjoying the beer. Lesley checked out the shops in Fremont, she met back up with us over at Binions. Fremont was very lively, with bands playing and the light show, a good atmosphere.
All revisited the shops, boys brought a poster for their room each and I bought a cowboy tie. We got the express back, it was very busy as usual, oh did I forget, stocked up on beer in the ABC store again.

Then back to the Mandalay Bay...

Zeus III - Bonus Slot Win

Started off with Zeus III - after an initial free spins Bonus it did a Re-trigger of a further 10 free spins. Nice kick start to the evening.

Pirate Ship - Slot Free Spins Bonus Win

Moved a couple of slots along to try out the Pirate Ship and swiftly hooked into the free spin bonus. Yo-Ho-Ho Aaaaarrrrggh!

Great Eagle II Slot Machine - Mega Big Win

Moved to the Great Eagle 2 slot machine and again bit into a Bonus. This amazingly Re-Triggered  3 times! Still in Mandalay Bay Casino Las Vegas Day 13 of of 15 day tour of the Las vegas Strip. Nice win for only 80c and 1st go on this (to me) new slot machine. I will certainly look this out again when we go back in November 2012.

Spartacus - slot win

Inspired by the previous 2 similar new slot machines I had a go on Spartacus - not bad for a 50c spin or two so swiftly moved onwards - as you can see by now I don't like to put it all back in - one or two spin out pushes and away with the winnings. As you can see for this session so far I am up overall around $228, along with racking up plenty of points towards Gold Card (currently Pearl from last trip)!

Van Helsing - slot hit

Feels like a bit of a roll on this type of slot machine, so I venture onto Van Helsing - another 1st for me but the research / plan before we went on this trip was to give these slot machines a look and this upped the winning session to a tidy $262. This gave the same feel as the winning streak we had at the Palazzo (see earlier - 1st stop - in the blog).

Free 8 Games Clocking Hot Zone - Sea Goddess
This was a a pretty poor bonus spins payout on the Sea Goddess -so as mentioned in the video, one to avoid in future. A not so Hot Zone, but hey a win is a win....

King of Africa slot win re-trigger bonus

Still the same session at the Mandalay Bay - nearing the end of our 15 night tour and this was the continuance of quite a night of continuous wins, almost one after another on each machine we went onto we felt we could not lose it was great fun....with more to follow..

Double Diamond 1$  WOF Bonus Spin
Decided to see how far the luck continues so upped the ante onto the Dollar Wheel of Fortune max bet per spin of $2. Nicely bit into a Bonus Spin of the Wheel. No prizes for guessing where it lands, but hey it all counts...

All told we were well up on the day, so a good end to a nice day.

Bed 1.30am

Vegas Day 14 - Saturday 19th May 2012

Played in the Mandalay Bay while we waited for the boys to get ready before venturing over to the Luxor.  We had just been on the Pyramid slot machine which was $5 per credit and got $325 on the bonus game and got cold feet and pulled out while the folk next to us were really going for it and losing quite severely, although they appeared high up on the bonus blocks of the Pyramid it seemed to cost a bit to stay in with a chance of hitting something significant....

$5 WOF Slot win at Mandalay Bay

So went onto this $5 WOF which quickly paid us 40 credits at $5 a credit (ie $200 win) was a very nice hit for us at $10 a push at max bet (which effectively doubled the payout), trying for the Bonus spin - we hit this on our 1st push. So after the spin out push we cashed out - much to the reluctance of my wife Lesley, who wanted to continue on to see if the machine was "warm". On reflection we should have maybe done one or two more (have entered this into our "reflections" game plan for the next visit) but a bird in the hand and all that...

Spartacus - Super Big Win

Decided to see if Spartacus was ready to pay us a bit more after last nights nibble. Second spin in just upped to 100c bet and hit this win while still at the Mandalay Bay.

When the boys arrived as we planned to meet at the entrance to the Mandalay Place shops which also lead through to the Luxor, Lesley bought a pair of "Las vegas" style flip flops to remind her of the WOF win.

We strolled over to the Pyramid Café in the Luxor for food, although had a few spins first.

Winning Times Slot Win - Luxor

Second spin in again and hit this multiplier straight in on the "Winning Times" machine. This was on our way to get something to eat at the Pyramid Cafe. Started with cheesy chips again, Lesley, Simon and I had the BBQ burger, Ollie had pizza, which was a little burnt, so the waitress sorted out another one for him, which was good (as she really took the initiative - Ollie probably ate nearly half of it while waiting for the not so well done version - so he was really taken care of). Went to Excalibur for a few spins, then back to the Mandalay, few spins and bed at 1.30 am again.

Vegas Day 15 - Sunday 20th May 2012

Up quite early for us around 8am, had a few spins in the Mandalay Bay, before heading over to the Bellagio for the Fountain Brunch at Jasmine, it was so good last Sunday just had to do it again. We did the unlimited Rose Champagne, food outstanding again, heaps of fizzy great session again. Did a room charge - will be interesting to see how much gets comped?

Staggered over to the Miracle Mile to walk off some food and booze, did a DVD of the song Viva Las Vegas by the one and only Elvis - with the 4 of us miming to it, what a giggle. Simon got a birthday pressy for his best mate back home - Dan , so all good.

Back at the Mandalay Bay we checked in for our flight the following day, always good to do this early at least you know what seats you have.

Chilled out in the Mandalay Bay for our last night in Las Vegas, boys drank far too much, had a good cocktail waitress.

Buffalo - Xtra Reel Power Slot

On this Buffalo Slot win we had a nice Re-trigger on the free spins bonus.

Golden 8's bonus win of 30 free spins

This was a nice bonus win on the Golden 8's - the last video'd slot win, which I managed to capture or remember to in the excitement - approx 3/5's of the actual wins. It is easy to get caught up in the action and the drinks flow so well that it isn't always the 1st thing on our mind.

Leaving Vegas today - Monday 21th May 2012

Boys badly hung over, but they did manage to pack and we checked out okay, good comps, so bill was only $300 - The Mandalay Bay are always really good to us! In addition learned that we had made Gold level on the M'Life Casino loyalty card scheme. It will be interesting to see what if any difference this makes to our next trip.
The Limo arrived on time (well done Presidential! and eBay) to take us to the airport for the long trip home.

to be continued .....

Coming soon the November 2012 abridged tour (i.e. only 10 nights).

1st Vegas Blog May 2012 Part 2 - Aria Hotel

Vegas Day 5 - Thursday 10th May 2012

Check out of the Palazzo all okay, got a reasonable amount of comp's knocked off the bill, so relatively happy.  Got  a cab to the Aria. The Aria is in in the heart of the new city center development, sandwiched roughly between the Cosmopolitan / Bellagio and the Monte Carlo - depending on the route you take.

We tried the $20 trick, but it did not work on this occassion - certain Casino's seem to have different rules to others even within the MGM group of resorts - the young chap manning the front desk just returned the tip and declined graciously but I left it for him anyway as I was so pleased that he managed to get us a room adjoining ours with 2 separate queen sized beds each for the boys, as well as good a view as you can reasonably get on a relatively high floor and very polite about it all, so I thought that deserved a tip anyway.

Well the check-in guy was right we got a very nice city view,(Rio, Palms Vdara, Cosmopolitan) did get the 2 queen beds and one of the rooms was ready for us to unload our bags into immediately, while waiting for the other to be setup for us. We got adjoining rooms on the 19th floor - so very pleased with the Aria arrival - our 1st time here!

Lesley did not like the full on electronic room controls console, as whatever she did seemed to disable everything, like turn the TV off and shut the curtains, so for her manual is best. Personally it was right up my street where everything seemed to be on one single "hoofer doofer" - fantastic (boys with toys stuff I know). The rooms were smaller than we have had in Las Vegas, but the beds and pillows were so incredibly comfy - seemed like that memory foam type material used.

Anyway, we quickly dumped all our bags and headed off to the Bellagio buffet. Great buffet as usual but our server was very grumpy and everything was too much trouble which soured an otherwise great start - not just with us but seemingly for his little section of customers even a lady with a baby in a push chair seemed to set him off. This was totally out of character with all our previous visits here at the Bellagio. Everyone is entitled to a" bad hair day" though. Will check it out again, but not this holiday.

We did lose a little money in the Bellagio, but do like it in there. We returned to the Aria via the ABC store in the Miracle Mile Planet Hollywood, to stock up with (water and beer) supplies.

Just before going down to the Casino took a few snaps of the scenery from our room. This one is a zoom over to the Rio. The object moving up is the outside elevator that whisks folk up to the fabulous Voodoo Lounge - which is a must do experience, as you feel the wow factor of feeling outside and seeing everything through the glass as you go up - not good if you suffer from vertigo though.

We liked the flashing sign also and have added a bit of video below to show for those of you that, like me, love the neon lights of Vegas.

The below is the Rio scene from our window here at the Aria in context for the above zoomed in shots.

Aria - Quarter Million$ - instant spins - bonus win

Going through the Casino area our 1st stop was one of our favourite slots Quarter Million$ as we knew where this would be and straight away was awarded 3 instant spins of the wheel - we like the Aria and enjoyed this tidy Bonus! just to ease our selves into things for this next stop on our 15 night extravaganza tour of the Las Vegas strip.

Monte Carlo - Megabucks Win

Had a bit of a chill down, then headed off next door from the Aria to the Monte Carlo. Always have a great time at the Monte but this was a bit more special and 2 spins in snagged my single best Megabucks hit to date in Las Vegas.

Monte Carlo - Diamond Quick Hits win

Following on from my nice Megabucks hit I went onto the Quickhits machine to play for the bonus but went straight into a Wild Blue win, so swiftly moved on from there. Unlike many folk I tend to do one or two "spin out" goes and then move on before I end up just putting it all back in the same slot machine.

Headed back to the Aria to take in the view before shutting down for the night.

Vegas Day 6 - Friday 11th May 2012

We were up and off around 11ish, headed off to the Cosmopolitan (Cosmo) on foot as its not a bad toddle.

As you can see we took the scenic route to the Cosmo on foot.

As we entered the Casino from the next floor up you can't escape the dazzling famed crystal chandelier.

This angle shows the view down through to the Casino floor area.
They serve the best cocktails in town, (Chocolate Martini’s and their namesake "Cosmopolitans" are absolute must try's and in our view the best)

Cosmopolitan Las Vegas - Super Times Pay 2X3X4X5 free spins Bonus Win

We all had a really good time in the Cosmo' as usual - the Cocktails there are absolutely top notch (during the daytime - at least) their "Cosmopolitan" namesake is absolutely excellent. Their cocktails are made only with high end shots of spirits, the best dessert Cocktail is their Chocolate Martini, the service almost makes the slot wins a side show...great atmosphere and fun, and the wins continuous...

We had too many again, so headed off to their (Cosmopolitan) buffet for a champagne brunch, not forgetting that I had had some very nice wins, so up on the day. Lesley left us boys in the Cosmo and headed off to Walgreens to get Hefty bags, creams and bits and bobs. For the first time she said felt a little unsafe walking between Planet Hollywood and Walgreens, passed the Hawaiian market, etc, you need to take the stairs to get to the bridge to cross the road. At one point she was in the stair well on her own, followed by a chap. This made her feel uneasy. Next time  she thinks she will remember to go in the building, I think its via Mc Donald’s to get to the bridge?

Chilled in the room for a bit, Then headed of to the Monte Carlo for a few spins.

Stars & Bars Quickhits Jackpot win

Arrived at the Monte all set for another great night. Started out with the Stars & Bars Quickhits - and duly quickly hit with 6 of them at Max bet. Nice start, fingers crossed for more...

Platinum Quickhits - free games bonus + retrigger Slot Win

after various ups and downs along with the the free flowing beers and cocktails the Platinum Quickhits certainly ensured we were still well up on the day.

Vegas Day 7 - Saturday 12th May 2012

In the morning we headed out to the Planet Hollywood, Lesley to check out the Miracle Mile, this is a mile of shops, us boys went into the Casino. We all met up, some of us up for food some not  and some not bothered either way, anyway went next door to the Paris, to see if the rest of us could work up an appetite with a few spins.

Paris Casino Las Vegas - reel Winners Instant Spin Bonus

The Harrahs group (Total Rewards) of Casinos generally are not very lucky for us on the whole, compared to the MGM (MLife) Group. I am not sure why though?

This didn’t really work for those still not in need of sustenance. So I thought if we went to check out the buffet at the Paris the sight and smells might nail it. The clincher was that it was coming to the end of the Champagne brunch, but dinner would follow, so we went for it - as there was no time limit and we could just enjoy the moment.

Ollie not happy as he felt he could not eat anything, champagne came fast and furious,  so had several glasses before this stopped, dinner foods were beginning to arrive, we all tucked in. Ollie ate heaps! On reflection it was probably the best buffet so far of the trip. Especially the delectable crème brulee’s. Brunch / Dinner lasted for for quite some time - as you may have guessed.
Back to the Aria for the Elvis show, great show, a cirque arrangement, thoroughly enjoyed it, which seeing as some of our group were not  Elvis fans, was pleasantly surprising.

Next we headed off to the Monte Carlo after for a few spins Lesley won $500 on the dollar wheel of fortune, she was on her own and unfortunately did not take a photo, must have been in shock, this is her biggest single win so far. (we have since booked ourselves into the Monte for our next trip, in November)
Ollie did not get a good cocktail service in the Monte tonight, so he headed back to the Aria, I found the cocktail waitress serving the area he was in and found she was on her way back with his as well as my drink and found that she was having to cover her area as well as someone else who was unable to do her shift. So after giving her a tip for both the drinks, I legged it after Ollie as fast as I could without spilling anything.

I finally caught up with him but this was half way across the Aria. So we settled there for a while and got a few more drinks and a number of spins. Spud and Lesley came back shortly after. Simon had won $300 on the quick hits at the Monte, then won a couple of hundred dollars on the video poker in the Aria. Lesley went to bed we followed, much later.

Vegas Day 8 - Sunday 13th May 2012

Had a few spins first, Ollie won over $100 on the video poker , he was very pleased, the win happened just as I was approaching to say time for Brunch. This time it was Champagne Brunch at the Jasmine in the Bellagio. So we set off again to the Bellagio.

We had booked a fountain view table for 11.30am, nearly said lets not bother as it does look a bit posh, but we went for it.

Well we had unlimited Rose Champagne (Lucien Albrecht Cremant Alsace rose) lovely, as soon as your glass was half empty it was filled again, and the food was out of this world, loved it all. Lesley was not keen on Oysters or Caviar, but the short ribs, chicken dumplings, Peking duck, salads, and of course the dessert room was definitely her.

Lesley went off to the shops in the Bellagio after the brunch, on the way she passed a 25c davinci dymonds machine, worked it out whilst in the shop that it would be around $5 a spin, so thought she would do 5 spins, hey presto on second spin won $325, an excellent payout.

Ollie and Lesley headed back to the Aria, Simon and I had a few more spins in the Bellagio before heading back to the Aria.

Lesley checked out the pool with Ollie, it looked very nice, he went off to get his swim gear, Lesley said she would join him when Simon or I returned, so they could look after passport etc, but we never arrived. Ollie got back 2 hours later from his swim.

Aria Hotel & Casino Las Vegas - LOTR Balrog Bonus Slot Win.

On arrival back at the Aria with Simon I had my 1st Lord Of the Rings Bonus ever....this one was called the Balrog Bonus.

Diamond Wild Blue - Quickhits free games bonus win

Still at the Aria , having a great time as usual. We had a re-trigger after getting an initial free 15 games ie a wild paired off with 2 matching 10's and we picked a wild +5 spins all x 2.

Diamond Quickhits slot bonus free spins win (2)

Following one of our rules of the "spin out" (just a couple) after a win, this one hit again giving another 10 free spins which was nice. The Aria continues to be good to us...

Pink Diamonds slot win - free spins bonus

Still at the Aria Hotel/Casino this was a handy little win on the 25c Pink Diamonds slot machine - 16 free spins bonus - although it did not seem clear at the time what we exactly won, we had gone through unlimted champagne over a 2hr+ brunch and a number of beers and Cocktails up to this point - but excuses to one side it does say £37 on the machine.

Aria - Wheel Of Fortune bonus win spin of the wheel

Our last day staying at the Aria before moving onto the Mandalay Bay which is the next stop on this 15 day tour in Las Vegas. This was the 3rd time we had a spin of the wheel - this was the best win of the 3.

We eventually got back to the room, having had a a fair few wins (gambled for 4 hours on $20 a piece).
All in bed at 7pm stayed there until 9am the following day what a waste of a night in Vegas, but the body was just weak - you only part on for so long before needing to rest a bit and the beds at the Aria are actually second to none we have ever experienced in the world. While chilling we watched a bit of the USA TV- Duck Dynasty and Storage Wars were a real hoot.

1st Vegas Blog May 2012 Part 1 - Palazzo Hotel

This is our first Las vegas Trip Report Blog although we have been to Las Vegas many times now.

Saturday 5th May 2012

Taxi up to from Devon to London Gatwick Airport. Approx.3.5 hours (thank you Simon great ride as usual). On arrival we head straight for the Virgin Atlantic check-in, no queue as the flight will not be leaving until tomorrow. Luckily we were one of the first to check in so were able to change seats, so went window to aisle seats, Lesley in the middle, VegasNix in front in aisle seat, good window for Ollie.

Off to the Gatwick Hilton for family room - booked here because it is practically integrated within the airport buildings so a short walk under cover to the Hotel. This time we had a different room to the last couple of times, but still great size and a slightly better view, a very comfy room for 4 (double with two single beds), had a chill for a bit, then off to Weatherspoon's in Terminal 2 (before security) for a few beers and food. Nice new pub, food good.

Erdinger on draft was excellent !

Back to room to rest before flight, put on Die Hard movie (1), not a bad sleep.

Vegas Day 1 - Sunday 6th May 2012
Checked out of the Hilton at 9:30 am, walked to airport through parking etc, through security, no probs here, quick look around duty free, before our gate opened for boarding. Lesley and I got a second search at the gate, bag and body, boys did not get this.

Ollie's seat back Video screen did not work (we are looking forward to all this being sorted when Virgin have refurbed their fleet by our next trip in November), he was offered a DVD portable player, but this was no good as he could not hear anything on it. So Ollie and Lesley read their books, Spud tried to rest and Vegasnix watched as many films as possible during the flight.

Arrived at Las Vegas on time, all good considering a 10 hour flight.

Limo was waiting for us, what a great surprise the ebay offer worked (this was our 1st try at a Limo via eBay and we were wondering if it would come together), lovely stretch limo, driver and Vegasnix took some photo’s, we were all a bit blown, but the trip was nice, especially the bit on the strip.

We decided to take the champagne to our room rather than drink it fast in the Limo as it was only a short trip to our Hotel. From the photo above it would also have been a shame to spoil the nice layout. Anyway we arrived like rock stars (in our minds I know, but it was a feel good experience).

Check in at Venetian, boys stayed with bags, Lesley and I went to check in desk, did the $20 trick, it really did the trick, we were upgraded from our rooms at the Venetian to 2 adjoining high level suites in the newer sister Hotel Palazzo over looking TI.

What a great view of the strip from these very lush suites. I can't see us being this lucky again i.e. triple Upgrade to Palazzo suite + strip view + high up floor. The $20 dollar tip was well worth it here!

Firstly we opened the champagne and had a toast to our holiday, so a good start, with a great view - just what we needed after our long haul trek to get here.

We all unpacked (for us that was everything we had packed into drawers and cupboards; for the boys that meant undo the zip and rummage in the bag for something fresh to wear down to the casino, while everything else stayed in the bags), showered, then off to the casino.

In the Palazzo casino we quickly spot one of our most favourite slots "Hangover" and swiftly get into the "Villa Bonus"on Alan's game after a few spins...

After a nice start on the Hangover we moved onto the "Jackpot Vegas Hits" machine and quickly bit into the Bonus...

After a bit more of a wander around we spotted an interesting version of  another popular slot the Wheel of Fortune - WOF for short - so decided to go for a spin or two upping the ante a bit, playing max bet and quickly hit.

After the obligatory spin out on the above machine we went onto one of the adjacent machines on the bank of 5. This one proceded to reward us with a couple of x 2 double diamonds and wof wild's thrown in for good measure - unfortunately somehow I managed to mute the sound on the camera?

The Palazzo has an excellent cocktail service - they really know how to look after you there - so over did the cocktails, now there’s a surprise.

After a few more slots of varying but not worth video'ing spins we headed off to the magnificent (Palazzo) Grand Lux for a bite, before bed.

Remember we have been awake for over 25 hours now, Lesley and I shared a Lux Burger Melt, Spud had his own Lux Melt and Ollie had the Enchiladas as he liked these so much last trip, unfortunately must have been a different chef today as these were way too hot for him this time - so we noted that when we go next time to ask them to hold the extra hot (chilli's) stuff to one side.

Bed late...

Vegas Day 2  - Monday 7th May 2012

Up quite early for Vegas, set off to the Wynn and Encore, on our planned annual pilgrimage to the "Pepermill" restaurant further down the strip - for our steak and eggs ritual breakfast .

Here we are just making our way out of the Palazzo.

Here we are just walking through the promenade shops from the main entrance
to the Wynn Casino - Destination Wynn Megabucks Slots!
The Steve Wynn's Megabucks is our (Les and I) usual 1st port of call - it really is fun and we nearly always strike a bonus very quickly - max bet is a must on this machine.  Excellent cocktail service and top quality, so over did the cocktails, now there’s a surprise.

Wynn Megabucks - Bonus wheel spins

Ollie and Spud always check out the video poker in the casino’s to see which are the best payers, Ollie tends to go between the video poker and the 9c machines. Had several other small wins on the slots on our way through to the Encore Casino.

This was our 1st machine stop after passing through the Wynn. This slot machine is the Megabucks Emerald Sevens and we hit Bonus spins with respin trigger. You would expect more from 20 free spins worth $3 a push but it was still good fun! we hit this within the 1st couple of spins. You can hear the waitress bringing our cocktails in the background at the 59 second mark, while we enjoy the bonus...

Decided to have a go on the the WOF slot and hit the Triple Spin Bonus win. Poor pay out for a $2.70 push (3 games at 90c each) so will avoid this one in future....  the feature was a bit of fun though. Broke even overall including the intermediate spin wins before hitting the bonus round, so still up on the session.

Managed to amble to the "Peppermill" (as seen in one of the James Bond films - Fireside Lounge) for "breakfast" early afternoon,  Veganix, Les and Spud had Steak and Eggs, Ollie had Eggs Benedict/hash browns with extra chips. Boys can hardly string two words together, as a result of the highly efficient Cocktail service in both the Wynn and the Encore (Steve Wynn's sister Casino), so desperately needed food. Food was excellent as usual - always worth going out of your way for, we especially like the 70's retro look and atmosphere - needless to say the service is always exceptional and friendly.

We strolled over to the Rivera Casino, it was obvious Ollie was gradually getting near to the point of maybe one too many, so Lesley and Ollie left Vegasnix and Spud to the casino, whilst they walked back to the Fashion Show Mall to get water and yes wait for it beer, we were to meet the other two back at the Palazzo.
Dropped off water/beer, freshened up then went downstairs to the casino.

Headed for the Super Diamonds slot, as it was so kind to us last night. This time hit the spin bonus.

Spud really liked the fact that at the Palazzo he could ask for special beers from the casino and get them from the cocktail waitress like Blue Moon, Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams etc. (for the uninitiated, the drinks served while gambling are free - you just give the waitress a tip!), so party on...

I was looking out for this New "Elvis" The King slot, which I had read about before coming and was a real hoot, when soon in, hit the "Hound Dog Bonus" for a nice win.

Next up was the new Godzilla Slot and hit again quickly hit the "Monster Island" Bonus for a nice win - This also triggered an additional "Defeat the Miltary" Bonus - good fun slot machine. Drinks flowed well, far too much for some, so apologies for the movement on the video mixed with curiosity to try follow the action which moved from bottom to top and as you can see all over...sorry to those of you who get dizzy easily!

Back again to the WOF to see if anyone has filled it up again for us... and yes another spin bonus is soon hit.

Curious to see what else this bank of 5 machines offers we move over and hit again very soon in...for another Bonus Spin win.

Moving around the carousel we had another nice win on the Super Diamonds multiplier.

And then hit the wheel spin for another Super Diamonds WOF win...

Wheel Of Fortune Bonus spin win (number 4) - same session still hitting the wins on the same bank of slot machines...and the night (morning now) is still young..

Still day 2 of our May 2012 Vegas trip - same session into the night at the Palazzo - the win's keep flowing (as are the cocktails) on the Wheel of Fortune super diamonds slots... and the beat goes on...we are having a ball.

Hangover slot Bonus win on Phil's Progressive.
So following quite a longish streak on the WOF we move onto one of our favourite slots of the moment especially as we are increasingly heading for quite a big "Hangover" as this day 2 of our May 2012 trip to Vegas moves into the early hours of day3. The fun continues as well as the winning streak...and of course the drinks. The Pallazzo is our first stopover for the first 4 nights then onwards to the Aria...follow the Videos in sequence to see what happens next on our 15 night tour.

still in the Palazzo - and the night is into the morning - when we venture onto the Fireball Bonus Frenzy slot machine for a quick win. This frenzy bonus turned out to be a a bit of a "fizzle" out rather than a "Frenzy" but there is more as the night moves on...

Palazzo - WOF Super Diamonds win (number 6).

We thought we would just have another quick go to see if they are still hot and 1st spin gets a hit. This night on day 2 of our May 2012 Vegas trip has merged well into the early hours of day 3 and the night is still young...

 Ballroom Busters Bonus Slot win

We spotted the new Ghostbusters bank of 4 slot machines and managed to spin into a quick $20 on one side then moved over to the other side and went swiftly into the bonus called Ballroom Busters... great fun!

Palazzo - Sex in the City Slot Bonus Win "Carries Change Of A Dress"

Still day 2, but into Day 3  03:50 in the early hours of our May 2012 Vegas special - we decided to give sex in this city a good go, luckily we went straight into the bonus on this game which we saw on Dianevoni's channel and excellent blogs, so gave it a try.
Good fun slot and bonus, and there is more to follow on this marathon session....

Palazzo - WOF Super Diamonds Bonus Spin win (7)

Amazingly, went back again for another quick go on the Super Diamonds and it hit yet again....

This was a nice random spin on the Palazzo Megabucks for $60 - looked better than the payout was, as we  initially thought it was something bigger but nice nevertheless.

Consolidating our position, while Ollie takes a break at 5:30 a.m. This was our usual routine to pool in on certain slots like the Megabucks - then divvy up after before doing the same on another machine we decide to choose.

We eventually finished this marathon session at around 6 a.m. when our luck started to dry up and we caved in and pulled out while we were well up on the day and the trip so far.

So all night, had a great night won many bonus' and went to bed eventually with a lot more money than when we started out with that day.

Lesley will never drink "Blue Moon" again.

Vegas Day 3 - Tuesday 8th May 2012

All four of us in bed recovering most of the day, I wonder why?  Suffice to say the rest of our day 3 was short lived due to hangovers all round... so a lot fewer videos later for this neverending day of days we will remember at the Palazzo.

Did eventually get up, gingerly strolled over to the Venetian, got some tickets to the Blue Man group for tomorrow (Vegas Day 4), then got some food in the Grand Lux. Lesley had the chicken sandwich, Spud had all day breakfast sandwich not sure what the other two had, I think Ollie had a very large pizza, he did ask for extra fries, but the server said, he would be surprised if he finished the pizza let alone chips as well, so he declined the fries and what a good job that was.

"$" Wheel of Fortune Bonus spin (1) day 3 of the tour - Palazzo

Day 3 of our Vegas 2012 trip of 15 nights will be brief as last night ended at 6 am this morning - and when we eventually emerged from our slumber the "Blue Moon" induced hangover had not had a chance to really kick in so this slowed the pace in our stacked agenda - this is the 1st of 3 WOF Bonus spin wins on the $ slot machine ($2 max bet - push).

"$" WOF Bounus spin win (2) day 3 of the Tour - Palazzo

Guess where the pointer is going to end - did you guess correctly? I bet you did! but as we say a win is a win so that is all good in our book. Onto the next Slot machine in the bank and we are still well up for the trip and the day.

$ WOF Bonus spin win (3) day 3 of the tour - Palazzo

As you can tell from the vid we actually had two bonus spins on this machine and this was the second - expecting great things as the initial bonus spin only hit $20 which was still nice.

This is the last vid from the Palazzo as day 3 was short, as explained above.

Night photo from our room at the Pallazzo. Somehow I can never find a camera that can get the real feel you actually see as my photo's never seem to do the scene justice. But you at least get a sense of the awsome view.

This is a zoom in to the top left scene from the photo above of the Mirage.

Just before going to bed tried to get a picture of the full moon but I think the glazing caused this double effect.

Vegas Day 4 - Wednesday 9th May 2012

Today we diced with death in a Taxi to Meadows Mall, not joking. We will think twice before getting in a cab in Vegas again, we have been taken for a ride before, but thought this time as we had asked a price before entering the cab, that it couldn’t happen again. However, the driver from the outset took off in the opposite direction to the Mall. I mentioned this, then put my head in my hands. The long and short of it all, we went on a mystery tour which given our taxi driver was obviously speaking a foreign language turned a bit scary as nothing made sense. The driver called in to someone twice we think for directions, (did not speak English, maybe - or so it appeared) eventually after going down a very scary side road, Simon said, can you keep to the main roads please mate! Eventually, got to Meadows Mall, meter reading $45! This ride should have been around $20, driver agreed the $20 as he admitted he got lost, but do taxi drivers in Vegas get lost?
Needless to say we got the bus back, far less stressful and got talking to some local ladies - moved to London then New York and now living in Vegas - passed the time while waiting for the bus to arrive. The bus dropped us outside the Palazzo and cost $5 pp. It was not a successful shopping trip as we were a bit shell shocked after the taxi. However, Lesley did manage to purchase a dress and a flowery hair grip and the boys got some "trendy" Las Vegas Shirts, good old JC Penny. This was a real experience not to be forgotten or hopefully never repeated!

Back at the Palazzo, got freshened up, Lesley put on new dress. Food time, guess where, yep you got it Grand Lux, Ollie enchiladas, with (HOT) sauces separate (learned from previous encounter with red hot chillis from hell), Carbonara & salad for Lesley,  2 burger melts for me and Simon.
We all then set off to see the Blue Man Group at the Venetian. It was an excellent show, very funny and visual, a great evening, well worth it, got good seats - free upgrade due to staying there! Note: Lesley and I had seen BMG before but really enjoyed it and more than happy to see this unique show again with the boys this time.

After the show we checked out Ti (Treasure Island Casino), we all went our separate ways for a bit, but caught up with everyone around a bank of 9c machines. Boys getting on well with the cocktail waitress, so yes they were very happy, Lesley and I went back to the Palazzo, leaving the boys to head back in their own good time.
